Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions that we get asked quite often. If you have more questions, let us know.

Having been in the art business for 25 years and having an extensive networks of collectors, I have an intimate knowledge of various collections. The works sourced are not public knowledge and are a result of intimate knowledge of the location of artworks and collections.

This is a question I get asked quite a lot, and I am rather surprised by the frequency of this inquiry. In short, I don't deal with fakes.

In 25 years, I have never dealt with a fake artwork. All the works I have transacted have been authenticated by the relevant authorities and estates. It also helps to know the artists, the collectors who buy the work directly from the artists, and the galleries who represent the artists.

If anyone ever approaches me with a fake artwork, I am able to identify it in two seconds and run away in the other direction.

These are several factors that determine the value of an artwork:

  • The artist's name
  • Year of production
  • Provenance (history of ownership)
  • Exhibition history
  • Publication records
  • Art historical relevance
  • Art market relevance
  • Demand and supply

Honey, if I had a crystal ball to foresee the value of your artwork, I'd be living in the Maldives, sipping Champagne, and watching the sun set into the Indian Ocean every night.

Jests and aspirations aside, I look to the factors listed in the previous point. I do extensive research on both art history, and the financial transactions and comparables before advising you on an acquisition.
